Frequently Asked Questions
What are the standard components of an Indian salary slip?
A standard salary slip in India includes employer information, employee details (ID, designation, joining date, PAN), earnings (Basic Salary, HRA, Special Allowances, Bonuses), statutory deductions (EPF, Professional Tax, TDS), and the final net take-home salary in numbers and words.
Is this generated salary slip legally valid?
This tool provides a standard payroll document template. For formal purposes (such as bank loan underwriting, credit card applications, or visa processing), salary slips should be officially authorized, signed, and stamped by the issuing employer organization.
Are employee salaries or PAN numbers stored in the system?
No. India Utility Hub operates entirely in your browser using isolated calculation engines. No salary figures, employee names, or company data are ever stored or transmitted.

Statutory Components & Format of an Indian Payslip
Detailed guide to basic salary, HRA, statutory allowances, EPF, ESI, Professional Tax, and bank loan verification requirements.
Earnings Structure (Gross Salary)
A standardized Indian corporate salary slip structures monthly earnings into distinct statutory buckets:
• Basic Salary (Typically 40% to 50% of CTC):
The foundational fully taxable core on which EPF and Gratuity are computed.
• House Rent Allowance (HRA - Typically 40% to 50% of Basic):
Eligible for statutory tax exemption under Section 10(13A).
• Special Allowance / Dearness Allowance (DA):
Balancing taxable allowance adjusted to meet total agreed CTC.
Statutory Deductions (Withholdings)
Mandatory government withholdings deducted from monthly gross pay before net credit:
• Employee Provident Fund (EPF):
12% of (Basic + DA) deducted and deposited with EPFO.
• Employees' State Insurance (ESI):
0.75% of gross wages for employees earning up to ₹21,000/month.
• State Professional Tax (PT):
State-level levy (typically ₹200/month, max ₹2,500/year).
• Income Tax (TDS): Deducted under Section 192.
Payslip Validity for Home Loans & Visa Applications
Indian banks (SBI, HDFC, ICICI) and foreign embassies require the last 3 to 6 months of payslips to assess loan eligibility and employment continuity. For a payslip to be legally recognized, it must state: (1) Company legal name, registered address, and CIN/GSTIN; (2) Employee ID, designation, Department, Date of Joining; (3) PAN, Bank Account Number, and UAN (Universal Account Number); and (4) Net take-home salary clearly rendered in numbers and words.
Payment of Wages Act Rule: Section 13A of the Payment of Wages Act requires employers to maintain registers and issue wage slips containing accurate attendance, gross wages, and itemized deductions to every employee.
